💡 Main takeaway:
In many ways, this match was an example of the gap between the best sinner in the world, Alcaraz, and the rest.
Zverev served well, created several chances and held tight with Sinner for most of the match – yet he ended up losing in straight sets.
Every time he gets a break point, the Italian simply hits an ace or a service winner. The German would have the upper hand on the rally and become extremely passive immediately, allowing Sinner to unleash and dominate the point.
Zverev had two break points in the first game of the match and a chance in three of Sinner’s five service games in the second set, each of which was saved.
There were moments where he used his forehand to get the better of Sinner, but they were few and far between.
Sinner finished with 28 winners against 14 unforced errors, having lost just eight points behind his first serve.
“I felt like I was serving very well in the important moments. I tried to play the best tennis possible when it mattered,” he said.
“Sasha played great tennis and I’m very happy with the way she handled it.”
