The Italian Tennis Federation and the Professional Tennis Players Association confirmed the death of two spectators from a heart attack during the men’s tennis finals on Monday.
The individuals were 70 and 78 years old and the incidents occurred at different times at the Inalbe stadium in Turin.
“The ITF and ATP Tour express their deepest condolences following the tragic death of two spectators yesterday during the ATP Finals in Turin,” a joint statement said.
“Medical and emergency personnel responded to the site immediately and provided all possible assistance.
“Despite rapid intervention and subsequent transfer to hospital, unfortunately, they both sadly died.”
The first singles match of the day between Italian Lorenzo Musetti and American Taylor Fritz was postponed, with an announcement confirming the presence of a medical condition among the fans.
Italian fans came out in large numbers to support Musetti and defending champion Jannik Sinner on Monday.
The ATP Finals will be held until November 16 in a stadium with a capacity of 12,000 spectators.
