Alcaraz, who hopes to add to his two French Open titles, two Wimbledon titles and two US Open titles this month, said he will focus mainly on tennis before his third-round match against 32nd-seeded Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
“Maybe I’ll practice a little bit because I want to be better in the next round, but the golf courses are waiting for me and I know that,” added Alcaraz, who celebrated all of his US Open victories last season with the impact of a golf swing.
While Alcaraz was fine-tuning his swing on the fairways across 18 holes, Coco Gauff, the women’s world No. 3, was hitting a different kind of golf course.
Speaking after her second-round win over Olga Danilovic, Gauff said she had spent her time away from playing cards and losing at miniature golf.
“I lost to my dad at mini-golf. He won $50, so that was good,” the American said.
Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev is taking a more relaxed approach to his holiday.
The 13th-seeded Russian player achieved his main goal after defeating rising Portuguese Jaime Faria 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the second round.
“First of all, an ice bath. Then coffee, sleep, coffee, sleep, exercise, sleep. That’s it,” Rublev said.
Other players, like Anastasia Potapova, don’t have the luxury of stopping.
“Tomorrow we will play doubles, so there will be no days off. Just work,” she said after defeating Britain’s top seed Emma Raducano in straight sets on Wednesday.
“I got a free evening today, but I’ll make sure you don’t do anything.”
