Naomi Osaka is known for her stunning Grand Slam looks, but she took it to another level with a jellyfish-inspired outfit that caused a stir on day three of the Australian Open.
The four-time Grand Slam champion made a special appearance on Rod Laver Arena – ahead of her first-round match against Antonia Rozic – in an outfit she gifted to her daughter Shay.
“It’s the most thrilling and thrilling entry into the first round of a Grand Slam I’ve ever seen,” said Russell Fuller, tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live’s daily Australian Open programme.
The 16th-seeded Japanese woman, two-time Australian Open champion, defeated Croatian Rozic in the deciding set, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and qualifying for the second round.
Osaka took to the court wearing an ocean blue tie-dye sports jacket with a white wide-leg bottom — both trimmed with ruffles.
The 28-year-old revealed that her outfit was originally inspired by a jellyfish, which she saw in a book while reading to her two-year-old daughter.
“Nike let me design this,” she said. “I’m so grateful that I’m able to do the things I love. It’s really beautiful.”
