Hollywood’s top stylists will tell you that the trick to rocking the red carpet is to wear something you feel comfortable in. Paddington Bear has taken this advice and implemented it. The spectacled bear from Peru holds on to his distinctive blue wool coat and red felt hat. We’ve recently seen duffel coats on the runways from designers including Coach and Simone Rocha alongside Oasis star Liam Gallagher, so Paddington is keeping up with the latest fashion trends. He didn’t neglect the joy either. Maybe those claws look particularly shiny, the result of a pre-carpet pedicure?

Hello everyone, Chloe from the Fashion Desk here. For the next two hours, I’ll be overseeing the good, the great, and the downright weird looks on the red carpet. First to arrive is this year’s host Alan Cumming. The Traitors US presenter and host is known for his love of polished looks and he doesn’t disappoint here. Cummings will no doubt change for his actual duties as presenter, but upon his arrival he opted for a tasseled ombre coat. Staggering down the red carpet, Cummings attracts attention. He paused to get a closer look at his hair.

This is Chase Infinity, nominated for Best Leading Actress for her role in One Battle After Another. The American chose a strapless burgundy fluted dress, which, thanks to the similar carpet color, gives the illusion that she is hovering above the ground. To Infiniti and beyond!

Like I said cumming, he loves the flashy look and nothing says theatrical like swirls of neon feathers plastered to the scalp. It’s just the fun start we need.

Hello everyone, and welcome to The Guardian’s live blog for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards. This is exactly the place if you enjoy celebrating the best cinema of the past year. It’s also the place to be if you like looking at pictures of famous people visibly surprised by extreme weather, but that’s probably less important.
As always, the BAFTAs need a little explaining, so here we go. As we speak, the red carpet is in full swing at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Two hours from now, the ceremony will begin, and will last for between two and a half to three hours. However, that will mean nothing to TV viewers, because the BBC’s broadcast of the ceremony does not begin until 7pm. clear?
So, here’s how the next few hours will go. Any minute now, Chloe McDonnell will start serving you the best looks on the red carpet. Then, the show will start, and we’ll all pretend we don’t know who the winners are. Then, at 7pm, I’ll be covering a fantastic two-hour BBC broadcast. After that, we’ll keep dancing until we’re all exhausted.
Now that the housekeeping is out of the way, we have a lot to look forward to tonight. More than most years, the BAFTAs are on track to become a decent forerunner to the Oscars. One Battle After Another leads the way with 14 nominations, Sinners follows with 13, and Hamnett and Marty Supreme are close behind with 11 each. It could also be the night that The Ballad of Wallis Island finally gets the accolades it deserves, which would be very exciting.
But that’s all that’s coming. For now, relax and enjoy yourself. It’s going to be a long night.
