German golfer Freddie Schott beat Scotland’s Callum Hill and former Masters champion Patrick Reed in a playoff to win his first DP World Tour title at the Bahrain Championship.

Hill started the day with two clear shots but saw his rivals close the gap as Reed shot a 67 to make up a four-stroke deficit while the Scot bogeyed the final hole to finish with a 71 while Schott had a 69 to leave the trio at 17 under after 72 holes.

Reid, who won the Dubai Desert Classic last week and plans to return to the PGA Tour later in the year after leaving LIV Golf, bogeyed the first playoff hole to exit contention.

It all went wrong for Hill on the next hole as his putt went out of bounds and then he found the water on the fourth hole.

The 31-year-old admitted as Schutt snuck onto the green at the Royal Golf Club.

“I have no idea. It’s amazing,” said the 24-year-old Almontaser. “I’m very happy, surprised. I don’t know what’s going on now. I’m very happy.”

“I could have done it the normal way, and that would have been good too! But doing it this way feels more special so I’m glad it happened this way.”
