Bangladesh eventually overcame a spirited Ireland on the final day of the second Test to record a straight-set 2-0 win in Mirpur.
They won the second Test by 217 runs, having clinched victory in the first Test by an innings and 47 runs.
Heinrich Malan’s Irish side knew they were in for a treat on Sunday, needing another 333 runs on day five to pull off a huge upset.
While they fell short of their target of 509, Curtis Campher impressed as he scored 71 off 259 balls.
He was partnered with Test debutant Gavin Hoey, who enjoyed a 104-ball stay that brought in 37 runs, including four runs, as he and Campher continued to push forward in the middle session of the day.
Shortly after lunch, Ireland’s total became the highest Test score for the fourth round in Dhaka by a visiting side.
Bangladesh eventually sealed the victory and the series in the 60th over as Howie and then Matthew Humphreys were dismissed by Hassan Murad.
Ireland finished all out with 291 as Murad finished with 4-44.
“At the start of the day the key word we had was fight,” Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie said.
“We knew we were going to be up against it most of the day, but the demand from Curtis and Gavin was really great, and even Jordan [Neill]the way he played, but especially Curtis to be there throughout this period.
“We had a lot of resilience but at the same time, we were definitely outplayed and Bangladesh deserved their win.”
The second Test will follow three T20 internationals, the first taking place on Thursday 27 November.
