Barcelona concludes an agreement to continue hosting Formula 1 races until 2032

Barcelona will continue to host Formula 1 races until 2032 after reaching an agreement that means it will alternate with the Belgian Grand Prix.

While the Circuit de Catalunya has been replaced as host of the Spanish Grand Prix by the Madring, it remains on the calendar for 2026 and the renamed Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix will be held in June.

The circuit’s future as a Formula 1 circuit was in doubt, but it will also host races in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

The races in Barcelona will alternate with the Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which will be held in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, said: “Barcelona is a wonderful city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion.

“I’m happy that we will continue racing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come.

“The team has invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for race attendees and for the city as a whole.”

The expansion comes after significant investment in the arena in recent years.

This includes the construction of the circuit deck, a new hospitality space overlooking Turns 9, 10 and 11 and the entrance to the main straight, in addition to installing solar panels throughout the circuit.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was originally built in 1991 and hosted the Spanish Grand Prix that year, with its construction being part of the development program for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Max Verstappen took his first Formula 1 win at the track in 2016 and more than 300,000 fans attended a race weekend in 2025, with the race generating around €300m (£261m) for the region each time it is held.
