Battle of the Sexes: Aryna Sabalenka will play Nick Kyrgios in Dubai on December 28

Three official “Battle of the Sexes” matches have been held, the most famous of which is between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in 1973.

American veteran Riggs had beaten Australian Margaret Court before King got his revenge four months later.

In 1992, 40-year-old Jimmy Connors beat multiple Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova, then 35, under mixed rules.

“I have great respect for Billie Jean King and what she did for women’s soccer,” Sabalenka added.

“I am proud to represent women’s tennis and to be part of this modern version of the famous ‘Battle of the Sexes’ match.”

Kyrgios, who reached the 2022 Wimbledon final, said he would relish the opportunity to play against Sabalenka, with whom he shares the same agent.

“When the world number one challenges you, you answer the call. I have great respect for Arina; she is a powerhouse and a true champion,” he said.

He added: “But I never back down from a challenge. I’m not here just to play. I’m here to entertain. This is what I live for.”
