BBC sitcom Two Doors Down will be adapted for the stage with a full TV crew | platform

Two Doors Down, a BBC comedy series about a suburban Scottish couple with their constantly knocking neighbours, is set to hit the stage.

Unusually, this ride will take place with the full cast of the hit TV show. Alex Norton and Arabella Weir will reprise their roles as Eric and Beth, whose Latimer Crescent home is constantly besieged by street dwellers, usually anticipating a drink or two. Eileen C. Smith will return as the over-the-top Christine, and Don McEchan and Jonathan Watson combine as a flamboyant couple, with an unhealthy interest in everyone’s intimate business. Graeme Stively and Joey McAvoy will once again play the younger street couple, while Jamie Quinn will return as Eric and Beth’s son, Ian, with Kieran Hodgson once again starring as his partner Gordon.

The show will take place at the Hydro in Glasgow from September 25 to 27 next year. Set in Eric and Beth’s home, the film revolves around a big announcement from Ian and Gordon.

There have been seven series of the award-winning TV show, which started as a one-off special in 2013 and then moved from BBC2 to BBC1. The sitcom was created by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp. Carlyle died in 2023 at the age of 48. “When Two Doors Down began to take off, its success was ultimately due to its comedy of appreciation,” Sharpe wrote that year in tribute to his co-writer. “People were seeing the truth of the characters and getting to know people from their own lives in them. It was all about the depth, lightness and fun of the character – which Simon was amazingly good at.” Carlisle said that Ian’s character was drawn from his own coming out experiences and that Beth was inspired by his mother.

When announcing the theater makeover, Sharpe said: “It’s always fun to go to the Hydro to see a show, so bringing Two Doors Down to this amazing venue with the full cast from the TV series is a dream come true. They’re an amazing group of performers, and we can’t wait to welcome audiences into Beth and Eric’s home where we can guarantee there will be some surprises as well as the odd one out acting just right!”
