Being vice-captain is “a great honour” – Cuthbert

Scotland last appeared in a major tournament in 2019 when they played in the Women’s World Cup in France and are aiming to take another step towards a return to the finals with victory over Luxembourg at Hampden on Saturday evening (17:00 GMT), a live match on BBC Alba.

As a veteran of the 2019 campaign, Cuthbert hopes the team’s past experiences will help them prepare for the current challenge.

“Everyone knows what it means to get to the World Cup as a Scottish player,” she said.

“But I think it’s important not to get too carried away because we’ve had good campaigns and bad campaigns. Now we want to focus on the front.

“We have a new group here, a new manager, but of course. I think it’s important to instill the highs and lows of the campaign.”

Cuthbert knows that the qualities the team has developed over their previous seasons will be key if the team is to reach the finals in Brazil next year.

“I think this is the important part, which is the flexibility that will control the course of the qualifying campaign,” she said.
