💡 Key idea:
As much as St Mirren emasculated Motherwell, don’t be fooled into thinking they weren’t a threat in their own right.
Mikael Mandrone, who scored the winner with two goals, led an impressive attacking force with the help of a few friends.
When he’s up and running, the 31-year-old is a solid performer and was at his best in his 100th appearance for Paisley.
His ability to keep the ball and allow his teammates to join in proved pivotal as St Mirren pushed forward quickly.
While his opening goal came with a side of controversy – a quick free-kick was taken during the build-up with the ball in motion – and his second, after a long wait from VAR, was a thing of beauty, he did not score the goal of the day.
That honor fell to Dan Nlundolo. His crucial second before half-time was the kindest spin and strike Hampden had seen in a long time.
It is no surprise that this duo scores goals. Unlike Richard King, who took third place.
Presumably the cannons were brought in to help close the store and see St Mirren. Instead, the Jamaican international continued his attack and slotted home, albeit with little luck.
Among other things, it demonstrated exactly what Robinson insists was a “misconception” on his part. They are more than just a rough and tough physical outfit.
“We actually have one of the smallest five-man defensive squads in the league, so that’s a bit of a misconception,” Robinson told BBC Scotland.
“They definitely got more than that, and if you combine physicality, talent and the end product, we showed it in abundance.”
