Ben Davies: Tottenham Hotspur defender targets Gareth Bale’s Wales record

Davies has been a central figure for Wales under Craig Bellamy and is the only player to have featured in all of the national coach’s current 14 matches.

The left-back feels Wales are lucky to have his former international teammate in his position.

“The most important thing is the standards he sets,” Davies said of Bellamy. “I remember as a player, when you talk about scary characters in the dressing room, he was definitely one of them.”

“You expect him to be on your case, and you have to perform in training, and you have to be on time, because if you’re not, he’ll let you know.”

One of the best captains is Davies Bellamy, who is now the manager he played under.

“It’s been tough and difficult, but you know the levels you had to reach. I didn’t expect anything different as a coach and he probably exceeded all the expectations I had. He’s been great so far.”

He added: “We have a really talented coach and someone who I think within Welsh football we are very lucky to have here because he can go on to do bigger and better things.”
