Big Bash League 2025-26 results: Perth Scorchers crush Sydney Sixers to win sixth BBL title

The Scorchers finished top of the group stage with runners-up to the Sixers, meaning they faced others in the qualifiers, with Perth comfortably winning that match to secure a home final.

Perth have now won six of 15 editions of the BBL, claiming their first title in the 2013-14 season.

The Sixers are the BBL’s second most successful franchise, with three titles, and have crushed defending champions Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger to reach this final.

But losing the ball was vital, as it was particularly difficult to score goals on the pitch at the start, which was delayed by five minutes due to rain.

After Daniel Hughes was dropped for seven at the end of the second over, fellow opener Steve Smith tried to strike back, but was dismissed for 24 off 13 balls when he was caught lbw by Aaron Hardy.

Gloucestershire left-hander Payne, who was named player of the final, then tore through the middle order, removing Josh Phillippe, Lachlan Shaw and skipper Moises Henriques to leave the Sixers 95-5 down in the 15th over.

Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson’s 3-32 and 2-29 off Mahli Beardman ensured there was no late onslaught, with Ben Dwarshuis running out two tries off the final ball.

Marsh compiled 44 off 43 deliveries and Allen hit 36 ​​off 22 to set the Scorchers on their way, with the four wickets they lost – Sean Abbott claimed 2-19 – proving a mere consolation for the visitors.

With the run rate no problem, Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Inglis composed 29 off 26 balls taking Perth to their target in 15 balls.
