Bormouth: Andoni Iraola’s future is uncertain as his contract expires

Stability, along with the guidance of building a team like himself, are said to be more important factors to Iraola than status.

Iraola and his advisers are likely paying close attention to the vacancies that may be on the horizon.

Naturally, the managerial market is poised to be very competitive ahead of next season.

Xabi Alonso, Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim to name a few, are currently unemployed and available.

Glasner confirmed that he will leave Palace at the end of the season. Thomas Frank could be available, given his ordeal at Tottenham.

Then there are international coaches Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti and Julian Nagelsmann, who could be out of work after the World Cup.

Indeed, the availability of several senior managers could benefit any plans Bournemouth have of trying to extend Iraola’s contract for another season.

But you can imagine Iraola will ask himself whether he has led Bournemouth as far as possible before making a decision on his future at Vitality.

In the past two transfer windows, Bournemouth have sold three of Iraola’s key players from last season: Dean Huysen to Real Madrid, Milos Kerkes to Liverpool, and Ilija Zabarny to Paris Saint-Germain.

They also sold attacking players Semenyu and Dango Ouattara.

The remaining member of last season’s defense – Marco Sensi – is set to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, with sources indicating that he has no intention of signing a new contract.

Bournemouth’s recruitment strategy of buying young players and selling big players has been a huge success.

The five transfers mentioned above raised a total of £254m for Bournemouth.

In the summer of 2024, they also sold Dominic Solanke to Tottenham for £55m.

Young striker Ilie Cropi, who has scored seven goals in eight appearances since arriving from FC Lorient in the summer in a deal worth around £12m, is the latest to attract attention.

Financially, the form has been a lucrative success for Bournemouth, but it begs the question of whether Iraola is capable of realizing his ambitions from a sporting perspective.
