The theme of Celtic’s season has been Rodgers bemoaning the transfer business and the perceived lack of quality brought to the club.

He has been asked regularly, and has pointed to the goals being taken out of his squad with the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi last January and Nicholas Khun in the summer, as well as Jota’s long-term absence due to injury.

Sebastien Tonketti and Michel Ange Palekwesha have arrived to bolster Rodgers’ attacking options after already being eliminated in the Champions League qualifiers by Kazakh champions Kairat Almaty, while Kelechi Iheanacho joined on a free after the window closed.

After failing to attack once again, Rodgers appeared to criticize the quality within his team.

He added: “I think the challenge we faced in the summer now leads us here, where we lost a lot of attacking power, and we lost a lot of goals in the team.”

“There’s no way you can go into a race and get the keys to a Honda Civic and say, ‘I want you to drive it like a Ferrari.’ It’s not going to happen.”

He insists it is up to him to find “solutions” to his goal-scoring issues, whether that is through changes in personnel or formation.

“Until something changes, I have to find solutions,” Rodgers said.

“Because as I said, the goals, the pace, everything is out of the team and we need to find a way to be better.

“We had opportunities to do what we needed to do. That didn’t happen, so now we’re looking at ways, whether it’s 4-3-3, whether it’s 3-4-3, whether it’s 3-5-2. We’re trying to look at all these different permutations within the team.”
