Former British and Commonwealth middleweight champion Felix Cash said becoming a father has helped him cope with long-term struggles with alcohol and drug abuse.

Cash has not fought since his fifth-round stoppage loss to Tyler Denney in Birmingham in the summer of 2024 – his first professional loss – but is now looking to make a comeback.

The 32-year-old from Berkshire isn’t sure if he’ll fight again after a turbulent few years out of the ring, but he feels “refreshed and focused” after six months of sobriety and the arrival of another baby.

“I’ve been trying to quit drinking and going crazy gay for six or seven years,” he told BBC Sport.

“It was getting worse, but having my new baby changed everything.

“If I kept going like this, I wouldn’t have lasted much longer. I would either be locked up or dead.”

Cash first made his name in 2021, winning the British middleweight title with a devastating third-round knockout win over Denzel Bentley at York Hall.

But long periods of inactivity over the past three years have stalled his momentum.

He added: “Now I have time to think. I’m happy to get back to doing what I love and I’ve been sober for six months.”
