💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:

Boxing legend Gennady Golovkin is running for president of the World Boxing Federation, with the aim of protecting the Olympic future of the sport.

Boxing was initially excluded from the Los Angeles 2028 program after the International Boxing Association (IBA) was expelled from the Olympic movement.

A new federation, the World Boxing Federation, was formed to restore the sport’s Olympic status and was given provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February, securing boxing’s place in Los Angeles in 2028.

Golovkin (43 years old) said, “With your trust, I will work to secure the future of Olympic boxing, restore global confidence, and ensure that every federation, coach and athlete – no matter how small or far away – has a fair opportunity to grow.”

Golovkin of Kazakhstan, an Olympic silver medalist, holds a world title at middleweight and is widely viewed as one of the fiercest competitors of his generation.

Although he has not officially retired, he has not fought since losing the third fight of his trilogy with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September 2022.

The only blemishes on his 45-fight record are two defeats to Alvarez, following a controversial draw in their first encounter which many believe Golovkin won.
