✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
It’s time for the mini drama trend to become mainstream.
As mini-drama apps like ReelShort and DramaBox quietly rack up billions, Peacock announced Monday that it will launch two unscripted mini-dramas from Bravo, which will stream on its app. It is a vertical video series, with episodes approximately 60 to 90 seconds long, designed for a quick, TikTok-like viewing experience.
“Salon Confessionals with Madison LeCroy” will feature the “Southern Charm” star giving her clients a new look as they tell her their most dramatic stories. “Campus Confidential: Miami” highlights a group of college students including Georgia Gay, daughter of Heather Gay from “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”
According to Peacock, this is the first time a major US streaming platform has produced a mini-drama — and it was bound to happen.
Drama mini apps, which were first popularized in China, are expected to be a hit in the US app market. According to app intelligence firm Appfigures, ReelShort reached nearly $1.2 billion in total consumer spending in 2025, up 119% from 2024; Another leading app, DramaBox, generated $276 million in total consumer spending last year, more than double its numbers in 2024.
Earlier this year, TikTok launched a standalone micro-drama app called PineDrama. Another micro-drama app run by Hollywood veterans called GammaTime has raised $14 million in funding, including angel checks from Alexis Ohanian, Kris Jenner, and Kim Kardashian.
However, many existing mini-drama apps offer performances – how can we put them well? – awesome. These things make “Riverdale” seem like a highly intellectual and prestigious HBO show. We’re not talking about “bad TV” as in how you might feel a little self-conscious about your “Real Housewives” obsession. We’re talking about a typical content machine that generates thousands of shows about a poor nerdy girl being bullied, but when she’s pushed to the ground, her glasses fall off, and some billionaire (who’s probably a werewolf) realizes she’s beautiful (or his werewolf mate) and falls in love with her.
However, people can’t seem to get enough and subscribe to watch these addictive little dramas, paying $20 a week in some cases to find out what happens next after some crazy action.
However, this collaboration between Peacock and Bravo could be a smart one. Both shows have built-in audiences made up of Bravo fanatics, who already head to the Peacock app to watch popular series they love, like “Vanderpump Rules.” Peacock is betting that while they’re already in the app, they’ll be tempted to watch a minute-long video of Madison LeCroy giving someone a makeover while pouring tea.
