Brennan Johnson: “I always have a point to prove” – Wales and Tottenham striker Johnson

Johnson played an integral role in the Welsh attack – alongside hat-trick hero Harry Wilson, David Brooks and Dan James – as Bellamy’s men recorded their biggest win since 1978.

They will face Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo or the Republic of Ireland at Cardiff City Stadium in the play-off semi-finals on March 26.

The draw will determine whether Wales play home or away for the final, with Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Ukraine, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia, Romania and Sweden being their likely opponents, should they qualify, in the pivotal match on 31 March.

Regarding his presence in the semi-finals at home, Johnson said: “This means a lot. You only have to look at the last two play-off matches (for the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Nations Cup), all of which were at home, and I think they had a huge impact on the matches.”

“We won the semi-final (against Austria and Finland) and lost on penalties to Poland.

“That’s something that was definitely mentioned before the game. We were already guaranteed to make the playoffs, but we wanted a draw at home.”
