Bristol City and Millwall have been charged by the FA over a mass brawl between players and staff at the end of their Championship match at Ashton Gate this month.

Joe Williams, Harry Cornick, Ross McCrory, Joel Coleman and Dave Livermore were also charged individually for their roles in the incident.

Millwall won the match 1–0 with a goal from Mihailo Ivanovic in the 59th minute and the Robins were denied an equalizer in extra time due to an offside flag.

Lions coach Alex Neil and Robins coach Gerhard Struber did not appear to shake hands after the match, as Bristol City captain Jason Knight appeared to shove Neil twice in the chest in an altercation that quickly erupted into a larger brawl.

The FA has charged both clubs, Robins players Williams, Cornick and McCrory, as well as Millwall goalkeeper Coleman and assistant coach Livermore for their role in the brawl, which occurred on Saturday 6 December.

An FA spokesman said: “It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure that their players and/or coaching staff did not behave in an inappropriate, provocative and/or violent manner after the match had concluded.”, external

Of the players charged, only McCrory appeared in the game, coming off the bench for Mark Sykes in the 64th minute.

Cornick was an unused substitute for the Robins, while Williams and Coleman did not feature in their respective squads for the matches.

The spokesman said Cornick and McCrory’s behavior “was not witnessed by the match officials, but was recorded on video and allegedly constitutes violent conduct.”

Clubs and players have until Monday, January 5, to respond to the accusations.
