Britain’s Oliver Conway has won the men’s U23 World Triathlon Championship title after winning in Wollongong, Australia.
In his first Finals appearance, the 20-year-old tore up the field by crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 42 minutes and 54 seconds.
Conway finished the race 99 seconds behind Hungarian Marton Krupko in second place and Italian Ioan Di Negro in third place.
After a solid swim and bike ride, Conway stayed in touch and ran an amazing 10km in 29:35 to cap off an impressive performance.
Five Britons competed in the race in Australia, with Jack Stanton Stock coming in 16th.
“I don’t think the race could have gone any better. I’ve gained confidence race by race this season and it’s great to see it all coming together,” Conway said after his win.
Britain won medals in the men’s and women’s triathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with Alex Yee taking gold and Beth Potter taking bronze.
In the first women’s final on Sunday, Potter will win the world title if she finishes ahead of defending champion Cassandre Beaugrande – last year’s Olympic gold medalist – assuming they are both on the podium.
