British runner Patrick Dever finished fourth in the New York Marathon, while Benson Kipruto won

Briton Patrick Dever came in an impressive fourth place on his marathon debut in the men’s race in New York, with Benson Kipruto beating Alexander Mutiso in a dramatic photo finish to take the win.

Preston Harrier Dever, who finished in two hours, eight minutes and 58 seconds, was part of a four-man group before Kipruto and Mutiso prevailed in the closing stages.

Mutiso almost overtook his Kenyan teammate on the line but Kipruto held him back as they both secured a time of 2:08.09. Their compatriot Albert Korir came in third place with a time of 2:08.57.

Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, who would have run his last marathon at elite level,, external She was 17th with a time of 2:14.36.

Helen Obiri set a record to win the women’s race in New York, with the 35-year-old Kenyan winning with a time of 2:19.51.
