Britney Spears has sold the copyrights to her music album, which includes songs such as Toxic, Baby One More Time and Gimme More, according to media reports.

Music publisher Primary Wave is said to have purchased the rights to the pop star’s music on December 30, TMZ reported Tuesday, citing legal documents. An unnamed source “with knowledge of the deal” confirmed the sale to the New York Times.

The terms of the sale and catalog price were not announced, but such deals have been lucrative for artists in recent years.

Prominent artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Shakira, Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake have sold their catalogs. Springsteen sold his songs to Sony in 2021 for $500 million, and that company bought Queen’s catalog for more than $1 billion in 2024.

Spears has released nine studio albums since her debut in 1999 and is one of the best-selling female artists. She has been at the forefront of pop music for nearly two decades, and her personal struggles have been widely publicized.

The 44-year-old spent nearly 14 years under a conservatorship that required her to pay lawyers to manage her life and did not allow her to make decisions about her personal affairs, career or finances. The judge terminated the legal arrangement in 2021.

She recounted how guardianship shaped her life, controlled decisions about her diet and family planning, and “strip[ed]me of my femininity.” [and] “He Made Me a Child” in the 2023 memoir The Woman Within.

Spears has not yet commented publicly on the sale of her music catalog. She had previously said that she had no plans to return to the music industry or performing in the United States.
