Can Jess Park take on Manchester United’s form in England matches?

The question is whether Pak has done enough to raise her profile on the international stage.

United manager Skinner said last week that he does not need to campaign on her behalf for more playing time – she is doing that herself through her performances.

“The only thing we need to be careful of is that the international landscape is different,” Skinner said.

“Sarina Wegman will play around the players she has, so we can’t be lazy in that context. But if anyone can get the best out of her, it’s Sarina and England.

“I hope you do because I want to be excited. We will continue to work on having Jess in that space with England because I’m sure you will be excited too.”

One of the biggest changes for Park this season has been to her position, as she has been given a largely free role at United, coming in from the left side.

She has been involved in more goals in the WSL (10) than any other English player this season, although teammates Lauren James, Chloe Kelly and Meade have faced time on the bench due to their injuries.

Wegman could still find a place for Park in midfield – but which position does Park prefer?

“We talked a lot about position, and where I start is where I start. Where I end up on the field is where I end up,” Park said.

“I’ve just enjoyed this freedom. Sure, I can score and create goals, but I’ll play anywhere on the pitch. I’m not upset here.”

But Skinner’s use of Park – which has proven effective – could be a good test of what Wegman can do with her in England.

There are eight international camps before England hope to compete in the 2027 Women’s World Cup, so can Park cement her role before then?

Skinner added: “When she was at Manchester City, she had a very clear and defined role and she had to do certain things. It worked for them at the time.”

“If you keep moving her and allowing her that freedom, she will make anything happen for anyone. The audition experience is amazing and we hope Sarina can see that too.”
