Carabao Cup: What do you get for winning the cup?

The 2025-2026 Carabao Cup winners will secure themselves a place in the Conference League qualifying round next season.

In previous years, winning the competition secured a Europa League qualifying spot rather than a place in the final qualifying round of the Conference League.

This changed following the launch of the Conference League at the start of the 2021-22 season, with only the highest placed team in the Premier League now not qualifying directly for the Champions League and the winner of the FA Cup entering the Europa League.

While success in the UEFA Cup ensures European football will continue into the following season, it has not made much difference recently.

Since the 2013-14 season, each winner of the competition has secured a better European qualifying place in either the Champions League or Europa League due to finishing first in that term.

Swansea City, winners of the 2012-13 UEFA Cup, were the last team to qualify for Europe simply by winning that competition.

In this case, which can be repeated throughout the season, the next best-ranked team after the Champions League and Europa League qualifying places earns qualification to the Conference League. This is officially sixth place.

However, England are on course to earn an extra place in next season’s Champions League through the performance of English clubs in European competitions this season. Therefore, this means that seventh place will earn a place in the conference league.

There is also a scenario where the FA Cup winner has already qualified for Europe. If that happens, and the UEFA Cup winner also qualifies for Europe and English clubs secure five Champions League places, eighth place will qualify for the Conference League.

The UEFA Cup winners will also receive £100,000 in tournament money, plus a minimum of €925,000 (£797,400) for competing in the Conference League.
