The next part of Alcaraz’s history will be to emulate Laver as only the second man in the Open Era to achieve a Grand Slam – winning all four Grand Slams in the same year.
In response to a question about this possibility, Alcaraz said: “It will be a big challenge.
“I just want one at a time. The next tournament is Roland Garros and I feel really special every time I go there.
“I don’t want to put pressure on myself to have to do this.”
Sinner, as has been the case throughout the past two seasons, appears to be his biggest obstacle.
The Italian will have a chance to complete his Grand Slam career at the French Open, after losing last year’s epic to Alcaraz.
Alcaraz or Sinner has been crowned champion in each of the past nine Grand Slam tournaments since Djokovic won the US Open in 2023.
Despite Alcaraz parting ways with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in December after seven years together, and Sinner losing to Djokovic in a thrilling five-set semi-final in Melbourne, their period of dominance does not appear to be ending anytime soon.
Praising Alcaraz after the final, Djokovic said: “The results are a testament to his already amazing career. He deserves all the praise he gets.”
“He is truly a legendary tennis player who has left a huge mark in the tennis history books.
“Anything is possible in his case, there’s no doubt about that.”
