Cause of death of Rob and Michelle Rayner released by coroner | film

The Los Angeles County coroner has issued reports on the cause of death of film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michelle Singer Reiner.

Both are listed on the organization’s website with the cause listed as “multiple blunt force injuries” and “homicide” listed as the manner of death. The date of death, which has been the subject of some speculation, has been set as Sunday, December 14.

The Reiner family’s bodies were discovered Sunday at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, after their daughter Romy went to check on them. Their son Nick was arrested later the same day and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon, a knife.

Nick Rayner appeared in court on Wednesday but did not enter any confession. Reporters inside the courtroom said that he remained hidden from view until the end of the session. He appeared to be shackled and wearing a suicide prevention vest. He only spoke once, saying, “Yes, Your Honor,” in response to a question from the judge who asked him whether he understood his right to a speedy trial process. He is scheduled to return to court for a hearing on January 7.

Rob Reiner’s peers in the entertainment industry continued to spread tributes, with Meg Ryan, star of Reiner’s hit romance When Harry Met Sally, writing: “Thank you for believing in the best in people, and for your deep love for our country.”

Rob and Michelle Reiner’s children, Rumi and Jake, also issued a statement to People magazine, saying, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we experience every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michelle Reiner, is something no one should ever have to experience. They were not only our parents, they were our best friends.”

The release of Reiner’s latest film, a musical featuring Spinal Tap playing at Stonehenge, has been delayed.
