When Motherwell’s Masoanhays equalized in the encounter at Celtic Park, Young scored twice, was perfectly placed to coolly slot home the equaliser, then raced through the middle to score Celtic’s third and secure three points, effectively ending the Fir Park side’s slim title hopes.

“He was amazing,” Celtic coach Martin O’Neill said. “Exciting in every aspect of the game.

“Looking forward, with the goals he scored, the energy and the desire to work, it was a tremendous performance from him.”

O’Neill said the 23-year-old was “on top form” in the dressing room after the final whistle, and Young may feel entitled to celebrate after a spell that showed why the club attracted him from Gangwon FC almost three years ago.

He may also believe he has begun to dispel any notion that Celtic will look to move him again this summer.
