Celtic will appeal the decision to send off defender Auston Trusty in Sunday’s 2-2 Scottish Premiership draw against Hearts at Tynecastle.
The US international brought down Hearts striker Pierre-Landry Kabore as Celtic led 2-1 and was originally shown a yellow card by referee Stephen McLean.
However, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) advised an on-pitch review and McLean deemed Trusty had denied a goal-scoring opportunity, upgrading the yellow card to red.
League leaders Hearts continued to equalize through Claudio Braga and secured a point that maintained their six-point lead over the defending champions.
After the match, Celtic caretaker manager Martin O’Neill insisted Trusty should not be sent off.
“I saw it again and I have to say I don’t see it,” the Northern Irishman said.
“Maybe I was out of the game too long or misread the rules. But, first of all, the ball being played goes wide of the goal and we have a man circling the cover.
“It’s not a red card. It’s gone now, but it played a big role.”
The Parkhead club said in a statement on Monday: “We can confirm that Celtic Football Club will lodge an appeal with the SFA in relation to the red card imposed on Auston Trusty, following a VAR intervention during Sunday’s match at Tynecastle.”
