Celtic boss calls for unity amid fan boycott plans

Having recently replaced Peter Lawwell – who resigned as Celtic boss at the end of last December, citing “abuse and threats” – Wilson admitted there was “not a huge amount of involvement”. [with the fans] “As I wished” last month.

Wilson says that is mainly because the transfer window is the priority, while also praising O’Neill, assistant coach Sean Maloney and the Celtic players for getting themselves back into Scottish Premiership title contention.

Celtic’s winter window was disrupted by the sacking of manager Wilfried Nancy and head of football operations Paul Tisdale in early January.

The club had recruited five players by deadline day, all on loan, and rejected a bid of up to £25m from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Arne Engels.

They are also in talks to sign former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

After a “turbulent” month, Wilson says the club has “reached out to every group of supporters” and hopes meetings can be held “within the next week or so”.

“Let’s see if we can move forward,” he added. “There is no hesitation on my part to participate and I hope this will be implemented soon.

“We won’t agree on everything, but we can talk about it [the issues]. But don’t let that distract you from what’s happening on the field, that’s all I ask.”
