Celtic have rejected a £17m bid from Nottingham Forest for Belgian midfielder Arne Engels.
Forest failed to make an initial bid of £14m for the 22-year-old, and then a second bid of £17m was also rejected.
Engels joined Celtic for 11 million pounds from Augsburg in August 2024.
He played 89 games in all competitions for the Glasgow club and helped them win the Scottish Premiership and League Cup last season.
“Honestly, I’ll tell you, I didn’t know anything about it,” interim boss Martin O’Neill said when asked about Forest’s offer after Celtic’s 2-0 win over Falkirk on Sunday.
He added: “If they did it, they must have done it during the match. I would like that to be rejected, unless it was £100m.”
“Then I think the board will step in there. No, definitely, I’d rather keep him.”
Celtic, who O’Neill says is close to signing two, and Forest are both participating in the Europa League qualifiers to be held this month.
O’Neill’s side are second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian, while Forest are 17th in the Premier League.
