Moyes’ assessment was partly due to Lammence’s eye-catching save to deny a long-range shot from Michael Keane which was heading for the top corner at Hill Dickinson.

But the main reason for that was the clumsy way in which the £18.1m summer signing from Royal Antwerp handled a series of corner kicks fired into the six-yard box.

The trust between Lammence and his defenders is clear, and there is growing confidence from United supporters too.

“The first thing you have to do as a goalkeeper is make a save,” says Lammens. “But I take great pride in doing other things well.

“Maybe it’s not always about the box office, but if you know a little bit about goalkeeping, it’s important that your teammates trust you and help the team.”

Former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar gave a positive assessment of Lammence’s abilities on Sky Sports on Monday.

Thibaut Courtois, currently number one in Belgium, also praised his compatriot.

But when asked about his role model, Lammens looked to Germany.

“Maybe my role model is Manuel Neuer,” he said.

“I pride myself on being an all-around goalkeeper. That’s why I was a huge fan of his. He never really had something that was clearly not the best thing in his game.”

United goalkeeping scout Tony Cotton pushed for Lammence’s signature – against the wishes of Ruben Amorim, who wanted to bring in World Cup winner Emi Martinez from Aston Villa.

It was a huge call. So far, this has been justified.

Veteran Tom Heaton, United’s third-choice goalkeeper, has been a huge help, offering the Laminos useful advice about not trying to chase the game.

Moyes marveled at the way United’s new first-choice goalkeeper dealt with Everton’s bombing of corner kicks, which sparked criticism from some – but Lammence accepts that as part of the game.

“I’ve always been told that England is the best league, but physicality is the biggest difference,” he said. “It has always been a strength for me, even in Belgium.

“Now there are more bodies in front of you. You have to be big and not get pushed easily. My physical features are positive for those situations. In training, you have to imagine these things and all the bodies you are trying to navigate.”

“It can never get to the point where it’s too much, but I’m enjoying it, getting out of my comfort zone.”

Away from Carrington, Lammence prefers to stay away from the high-pressure environment of top-flight football. He is more likely to be found watching basketball than watching Premier League matches on TV.

But the Belgian’s place at United is now firmly established. Altay Binder will not be replacing him any time soon and the idea of Andre Onana returning from his loan spell in Türkiye to reclaim the number one role is fanciful.

However, perhaps as expected, Lammence doesn’t get ahead of himself.

“I said a few weeks ago that I couldn’t imagine things going any better, but I don’t want to look back too much,” he says.

“I mean it’s great but I still have to prove myself every week. I’m not satisfied with that. I’m happy it went well but it’s not the end.”
