💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:
Ty Simpson has been the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide this season. After spending the past three seasons as a backup option on the depth chart, he helped the program qualify for the 12-team playoffs under coach Calen DeBoer.
The Crimson Tide won the first round against Oklahoma and were paired to face the undefeated Big Ten champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, in a Rose Bowl quarterfinal game. However, Ty Simpson struggled mightily to show any kind of productivity against Curt Cignetti’s team.

In the end, Alabama suffered a humiliating 38-3 loss to the Hoosiers, ending their hopes of competing for a national championship. After the match, fans on social media trolled Simpson and harshly criticized him for his lackluster performance.

One fan commented, “Ty Simpson getting ready to sell insurance boyfriend! Trash a**. Fuck that damn coach too the boys gave up on him.”
“Penix DeBoer made it. Ty Simpson is a bust,” another fan said.
“Simpson went from Heisman to bust in record time,” this fan wrote.
Other fans said: “We’ve suspended Ty Simpson. We’ve seen a worse reaction in a long time.”
“Simpson is the worst Alabama player I’ve ever seen,” one fan wrote.
“Simpson has no business going to the NFL next year. He’s very uncomfortable early in games,” this fan commented.
Against Indiana, Simpson completed just 12 of 16 passes for 67 yards and no touchdowns. He was then benched for Austin Mack in the second half. Alabama reporter Mike Rodak later revealed that the quarterback suffered a broken rib, causing him to be benched.
“Ty Simpson said he fractured his rib on the hit that caused the fumble. X-rays revealed the fracture in the first half,” Rodak wrote on Twitter.
In four seasons with the Crimson Tide, Simpson totaled 3,881 passing yards and 28 TD passes.

Alabama TE Josh Cuevas shares a message for Ty Simpson after his disappointing performance against Indiana
Josh Cuevas moved on to play for Alabama in 2024. Two years ago, he shared the field with Jalen Milroe, recording 218 yards and a touchdown. This season, he was part of the offense led by Ty Simpson.
Following Thursday’s Rose Bowl quarterfinal loss to Indiana, Cuevas shared a message for the quarterback.
“I’m proud of you, man,” Cuevas said. “Your battle, I mean I look up to you as a leader. You know, being the QB1 all the way through, my job was to really be the glue for the team and kind of its security blanket.”
“Ty and I have been close this whole season. Even from last season as well. But I think I’ve seen him develop into the man he is today, into the quarterback he is today, and I’m very proud of him.”
Simpson has one more year of eligibility remaining. He could either declare for the 2026 NFL Draft or decide to return to play the final year of his collegiate campaign.
