The FA brought charges against Coventry City and Southampton over what happened after the final whistle in the match Tie 1-1 at St. Mary’s on Saturday.

There was an altercation between several players and staff on both sides, with Sky Blues coach Frank Lampard appearing to exchange words with Saints players before others became involved.

Coventry took the lead in the first half with an Efron Mason-Clark goal before the game came alive in a frantic start to the second half.

Jay DaSilva was shown a straight red card for a rash tackle two minutes into the second half that reduced the Sky Blues to 10 men before Nathan Wood equalized for the hosts nine minutes later.

The draw meant Coventry missed the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Championship.

An FA spokesman said: “It is alleged that both teams failed to ensure that their players and/or coaching staff did not behave in an inappropriate and/or provocative manner after the final whistle.”

The clubs have until Tuesday, December 30, to respond to the accusations.
