ChatGPT finally offers a Professional plan for $100 per month

OpenAI on Thursday announced something its power users have been clamoring for forever: a $100-per-month plan. So far, the plans have been priced as follows: Free (which now includes ads), the $8 per month Go plan (also includes ads), the $20 per month Plus plan (no ads), and then up to the $200 Pro plan (also no ads).

OpenAI’s pricing plan page currently doesn’t include a $200 per month plan at all. However, this higher level is still available, OpenAI confirmed to TechCrunch.

The model maker says the Plus (which remains at $20 per month) and the new $100 Pro tiers are geared toward supporting everyday use of ChatGPT’s Codex programming tool. The $100 Pro plan will provide 5x Codex compared to the Plus plan.

OpenAI makes no secret that this new pricing level will challenge Anthropic, which has long had a $100 per month option for Cloud.

“The new $100 Professional tier is designed to give developers a more practical ability to code for the buck, especially during high-intensity sessions where limits are most important. Compared to Claude Code, Codex offers more coding capacity per dollar across paid tiers, with the difference being more noticeable during active code use,” an OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch.

One thing to know: OpenAI is offering higher Codex limits on the $100 plan through May 31. So anyone who tries the new level, goes relatively crazy with the programming and never gets a price warning, please know that such a situation will most likely not persist.

None of the plans offer unlimited usage. However, the $200 plan offers 20 times higher limits than Plus. This is enough to support “the most demanding workflows consistently, even across parallel projects,” the modeler promises in the FAQ. Both Pro plans offer the same basic features. The company says the main difference is the price caps.

The spokesperson also says that more than 3 million people globally use Codex every week, “up 5x in the past three months, with usage growing by more than 70% month over month.”
