Chelsea 5-0 West Ham: The Blues are ready to “fight to the end” in the Women’s Premier League title race

Being ruthless is not an issue Chelsea have faced often in recent years, but it has crept up this season.

An early-season defeat to Aston Villa, disappointing draws with Manchester United and Liverpool, and a shock 1-0 loss to Everton in December all proved costly as City took the lead.

In those matches, creating chances was not the problem, scoring goals was the problem. But after racking up 14 goals in their last two games – including a 9-1 League Cup win over Liverpool in December – Chelsea appear to have rediscovered their finishing touch.

Against West Ham, they took advantage of two defensive errors and converted five of 10 shots on target, as well as hitting the crossbar.

Given that Chelsea boast the weakest defense in the division, conceding just six goals from 12 games, getting the better of the other side could be a deadly combination.

“If you think about the first part of the season, if you analyze the performances and look at the statistics, we created a lot of chances,” Bombastor added.

“It’s really important to have quality. We talk a lot about performance but the most important thing when you’re at Chelsea is to win.”

This is the main message until the end of the campaign.

Chelsea know there is room for wiggle room in the title race, with ties against Arsenal and City scheduled for later this month.

They also visit in-form Tottenham Hotspur, while their busy schedule will include the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in March.

“When you play for Chelsea, you have to compete in four competitions and win titles,” Bombastor said. “It reinforces these messages all the time.

“We want to go as far as possible in every competition.”
