A plastic water bottle was thrown in the wake of Villa’s 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge after two late goals from Ollie Watkins sparked wild celebrations from the away team.
An FA statement read: “The club allegedly failed to ensure that its players and/or other relevant persons positioned around the technical area after the final whistle did not behave in an inappropriate, provocative and/or offensive manner.”
It was not clear at the time whether someone had thrown the bottle from the stands or from inside the technical area, but it showered the staff with a clear liquid that appeared to be water.
A member of Villa’s coaching staff was seen pointing towards the Chelsea bench as they achieved a joint record eleventh successive win in all competitions.
Chelsea is investigating the incident but has not yet commented.
BBC Sport has contacted Chelsea for further comment following the charge.
