Chelsea: Fan in hospital shocked by Napoli stabbing as Napoli ultras blame him

A Chelsea A fan has described the “shock” he experienced after being stabbed and taken to hospital ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Napoli in Italy.

Marcos, 22, who did not want to give his surname, said he and a group of Chelsea fans were targeted in central Naples by a group of Neapolitan “ultras” – a term used for hardline supporter groups in European football.

“We turned the corner. It wasn’t technically an alley, but it looked like an alley because there were no lights,” he said.

“There were about 20 or 30 people, all dressed in black, walking towards us as soon as we looked at them. Some people knew what was happening and ran away immediately.”

Marcus, who was with “seven or eight” friends, added: “It was definitely a shock. Everyone was shaken when we finally found the police.”

“I was wearing shorts and was covered in blood, blood was running down my leg. We think it was a screwdriver – it could have been a Stanley blade. It was either that or the screwdriver.”

“I didn’t really feel it until I started running away. I felt a heaviness in my left cheek, and as soon as I touched it, my hand was covered in blood.”
