One of Bowen’s best chances in the prestigious Gold Cup may come on Friday (16:00 GMT), when he rides the Rebecca Curtis-trained Haiti Color.

“I think he’s been trained very well by Becky,” said Bowen, who has already won several big races aboard the nine-year-old.

“He’s already a Cheltenham Festival winner, a Welsh Grand National winner and an Irish Grand National winner. It would be great to add the Gold Cup to your CV, wouldn’t it?”

“I think he’s well capable of doing that.”

The champion knight is also looking forward to other opportunities at the festival.

“Wideout is only the second or third favorite for the National Hunt, and he has been trained to race,” Bowen added.

“Ames, trained by James Owen, will go to Fred Winter. He was impressive in the early part of his steeplechase career and has been renewed with Cheltenham.

“There are definitely a few people with chances in the handicap races and obviously they will all be very difficult races to win, but it will be nice to be out there competing.”
