Tottenham Team captain Christian Romero has been suspended for an additional match and fined £50,000 for his behavior during his side’s defeat to Manchester City. Liverpool last month.

Romero admitted a FA charge of “behaving inappropriately by not leaving the field immediately” after being sent off in the 93rd minute of Tottenham’s 2-1 loss on 20 December.

The Argentine defender received the second yellow card after he kicked Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate after he was obstructed. His first warning came in the 66th minute for dissent.

Romero also allegedly behaved in a “confrontational and/or aggressive manner toward the referee.”

Following a hearing, an independent regulatory committee has now imposed a one-match ban and a £50,000 fine.

Romero has already served an automatic one-match ban for his dismissal, missing Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 28.

He was suspended for his team’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham on 29 November due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

An FA spokesman said the written reasons for the latest sanctions would be published in due course.
