💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
Anthropic is bringing Voice Mode to Claude Code, the company’s AI programming assistant for developers. The launch of Voice Mode represents an important step towards a more hands-free conversational coding workflow.
Tarek Shehibar, an engineer at Anthropic, announced the gradual release of the feature on X on Tuesday. According to Shihipar, Voice Mode is now available to about 5% of users, and is scheduled to be rolled out more widely in the coming weeks.
Voice Mode is designed to simplify the programming experience by allowing users to interact with Claude Code through spoken commands. To enable it, type /voice to run it, then speak the command and Claude Code will execute the request. For example, “refactor authentication middleware”.

It is still unclear what restrictions will be placed on the new capability, including whether there are caps on voice interactions or specific technical limitations. It is also unknown whether this feature was created in collaboration with a third-party AI audio provider such as ElevenLabs, which Anthropic is said to be in talks with.
The company has not yet responded to requests for comment from TechCrunch.
Anthropic launched a voice mode for its standard chatbot Claude last May, allowing users to interact with the model via voice for a variety of general-purpose tasks.

Competition in AI programming assistants is intense, with GitHub’s Copilot, Cursor, Google, and Microsoft’s OpenAI all vying for developers’ attention. However, Cloudcode stands out as one of the most widely adopted tools on the market today. In February, Anthropic reported that run-rate revenue for Claude Code exceeded $2.5 billion, more than doubling since the start of 2026. Additionally, the number of weekly active users has doubled since January.
Meanwhile, the Cloud mobile app saw a huge jump in user growth after the company refused to allow the Department of Defense to use its AI for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. Following this, the app rose to the top of the US App Store charts, overtaking ChatGPT.
