Cody Rhodes falls into the trap of defeat after losing the WWE Championship

WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes delivered a massive blow in tonight’s Saturday Night main event. The American Nightmare match opened the show.

Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest babyfaces in wrestling entertainment right now. Many believe he is “the next John Cena.” Rhodes has been champion in the company most of the time since WrestleMania XL. He dropped the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cena at last year’s ‘Mania but regained it at SummerSlam 2025.

However, The American Nightmare was no longer champion as he lost the gold medal to Drew McIntyre on the January 9, 2026 edition of SmackDown. This loss came after Jacob Fatu interfered in the match and inadvertently helped McIntyre become champion.

In tonight’s Saturday Night Main Event, Cody Rhodes is set to take on Jacob Fatu in a singles match. During his entrance to the show, Rhodes dropped a big bomb while wearing a black/gray American Nightmare helmet.

The last time he wore a helmet during his entrance was when he faced John Cena at SummerSlam 2025. It should be noted that he wore a gold helmet at the biggest party of the summer. With this dark-themed helmet, Rhodes said he may soon be embracing his dark side on WWE television.
