Palmer has cut a frustrating figure this season, after having to manage a nagging groin injury.

Speculation over his future intensified after he barely celebrated by scoring a second-half penalty against Brentford and went straight into the tunnel after Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win last weekend.

Rosenior added: “There was frustration in the Brentford match, not because he is not happy here, but because he could not perform at the level he wanted for the club.”

“My job and the club’s job is to make him perform consistently at the level he wants.”

Palmer missed Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League win over Paphos in midweek with a minor thigh injury, but the Blues boss said they would “assess his reaction to training” ahead of Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Rosenior also confirmed that second choice goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen will be sidelined, although his injury is “not as bad” as initially feared, and he could be available for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Napoli.

Midfielder Dario Esogo will be out of action for “more than a month” after “slipping in training.”
