Company X says it will take action against content creators who post videos of AI-armed conflict without disclosing that the content was created by AI. On Tuesday, X’s head of product, Nikita Beer, announced that people who use AI technology to mislead others in this way will be kicked out of the company’s creator revenue sharing program for three months (90 days).
If they continue to post misleading AI-based content after the suspension is lifted, they will be permanently suspended from the program.
“In times of war, it is very important that people have access to reliable information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people,” Pierre wrote on
X says it will identify misleading posts through a range of tools used to detect generative AI content, as well as through its crowdsourced fact-checking system, Community Notes.
The X Creators Revenue Sharing Program provides creators with the ability to generate income by posting on the platform and share in advertising revenue if their posts are popular. Although it’s designed to boost the amount of engaging content on Some have also criticized its lax content controls and requirement that creators receive X amount from subscribers to participate.
Given how easily AI can be used to take misleading photos and videos, X’s ban on financially rewarding creators for this type of content is only a limited solution. Outside of war, AI media is often used to create political disinformation or push deceptive products in the influencer economy — all of which would still be allowed under the new policy.
