Rangers midfielder Conor Barron faces up to three months out, with manager Danny Ruhl bemoaning a “never-ending saga” with injury problems.

Barron suffered a knee ligament injury during Tuesday’s 2-0 win over his former club Aberdeen.

Dougon Sterling, who recently returned from a long-term Achilles injury, is expected to miss three weeks due to a muscle problem that appeared in the same match.

Barron, 23, has been an increasingly influential player for Rolle as Rangers climbed to second place in the Scottish Premiership, and the German said it would be a “big loss”.

“I think he will be out for eight to 12 weeks, we are talking about March and April at the moment,” Ruhl explained.

“This is football. It’s a never-ending story since I’ve been here, when you have a team together and you’re trying to grow and give them confidence and you can do the same thing starting from the starting lineup.

“Then you have new injuries. But I think we’ve done a good job in the last two weeks, and we always find the solution again.

“I think it’s not just Connor. The relationship with Nico (Raskin) was very special when you look on the pitch which was very fluid, they helped each other on the pitch, and then in the last two games I saw as well, Dio (Mohamed Diomandi), the three-man midfield was very strong.

“They set the tempo, they win a lot of balls, and that’s what we miss of course, but it’s time for other players to step in and take responsibility.”
