While Chelsea remain unbeaten at the start of the 2025-26 season and sit at the top of the Premier League table, Arsenal have been less fortunate.

The Gunners’ hopes of competing for the title suffered an early blow, with defeat against Manchester City and draws against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

The results leave Arsenal five points behind Chelsea, and defeat on Saturday is certain to end their dreams of winning a first league title since 2019.

Although they have had a shaky start to the season, the Gunners have strengthened in the summer and the Sluggers have a deeper squad to challenge the defending champions.

Arsenal will also gain confidence from their Champions League win last season, when they beat eight-time winners Lyon and favorites Barcelona to win the only title Chelsea have yet to win.

Former Arsenal defender Jean Beattie says Arsenal have the players who cause Chelsea problems.

“I think they have enough quality in their team to do that [win],” she told the Women’s Football Weekly podcast.

“We’ve seen that over the last 12 months of course, it’s about whether they’re doing it right tactically.”

Slegers will also be well aware that the Bombastors have looked far from invincible this season.

The Blues overcame a slow start to beat Aston Villa and narrowly edge out Leicester City, while dropping points in a surprise draw against Dutch side Twente in their Women’s Champions League opener.

Former England striker Elaine White, who described Chelsea’s unbeaten run as “ridiculous”, added: “It will be a real challenge for Arsenal and I think it comes at the right time for them.

“They have to get it all together now and they have to perform and improve and really get their season going.”

But if the Gunners fail to pick up any points on Saturday, White says the title, which they last won in 2019, will be “out of reach” again.
