“I saw a lot of what he was doing here in Wales as the national team manager, and the way he was fascinated by football. He’s obviously connected to Celtic as well with his days playing there for a short period.”
Striker Bellamy represented Wales as a player from 1998 to 2013 and midfielder Ledley played for the country from 2005 to 2018.
Wales faces two matches in the World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein outside its stadium (Saturday) and at home against North Macedonia (next Tuesday) to determine whether it can participate in next year’s World Cup through direct qualification or not, and it must play the play-off matches.
His team currently ranks third in Group 10 behind Belgium and North Macedonia, but with a game in hand on the latter while trailing by one point with two remaining matches.
“He’s very attack-minded, he’s very aggressive, he moves very quickly, he presses very hard,” Ledley said of Bellamy’s tactics.
He added: “I think the style of play he plays in for Wales will definitely suit Celtic. He is very passionate about the club as well. He knows a lot about it, so for me he would be perfect.”
“But whether it’s a little early, I think he’s come out and already said he’s got unfinished business here with the national team, with Wales guaranteed a World Cup play-off in March. So, you know, whether the club will agree to wait and see what Craig does or they may have to move on.”
“Kieran McKenna has also been linked at Ipswich, who performed well there and was linked a few years ago with a move to Chelsea. It all depends on what the board really wants to do.
He added: “Craig is still young and you can see that he is a very intelligent coach who loves football, breathes football and has a good team around him as well.”
