Cristian Romero appears to be targeting senior figures at Tottenham

Tottenham Captain Cristian Romero appeared to take aim at the club’s hierarchy, accusing them of telling “lies” in a since-edited Instagram post.

Tottenham have won just one of their past six Premier League matches and are in 14th place after losing 3-2 to Bournemouth on Thursday.

After the defeat, Romero stated on Instagram that “other people” should come out and speak up, adding that they “only show up when things are going well, to tell some lies.”

Romero, 27, has since deleted that post and uploaded a new statement – almost identical – deleting the part about lying but still appearing to criticize senior figures at the club.

“I apologize to all your fans who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will always be there,” Romero wrote., external

“We are responsible, there is no doubt about that. But we will continue to face it and try to change the situation, for ourselves and for the club.

“At times like this, other people should come to speak, but they don’t – as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well.”

“We will stay here, work and stick together and do our best to change things. Especially in times like these, staying silent, working harder and moving forward together, is part of football.”
