✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
Despite retaining Matita, Palace’s top scorer with eight league goals this season, the Eagles paid a club record fee to sign striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen from Wolves.
Palace were also on the verge of signing Everton winger Dwight McNeil until the deal fell through late on deadline day.
Glasner said he had “learned to accept situations” after Palace also failed to find a replacement for captain and centre-back Mark Guehi, who joined Manchester City earlier in the window.
“In the end, the club tried everything by making huge bids and huge offers to replace Marc Guehi, but the clubs said they were not selling on the deadline,” Glasner said.
“Credit to the club that without getting any money for Mateta, they still spent a big fee on Strand Larsen.
“On the other hand, McNeil was the last one we thought we could complete, but in the last minutes the terms of the deal changed again and the deal fell through. I expected and planned for him in training the next day.”
McNeil’s partner, Megan Sharpley, criticized Crystal Palace on social media for the way they handled the situation.
Everton coach David Moyes said the collapse had “nothing to do” with his club, and insisted McNeil was “fine”.
“He’s there and training too, so Dwight is fine,” Moyes said.
“We understand exactly where it went wrong and how it broke down. He knows all about it and there are no problems there.
“We gave Dwight permission to go and do the medical and do all the things that were required for that, so it was very difficult to do more than we did.”
